BassJump 2 Subwoofer technical diagram

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I get the BassJump Software?

You can download the BassJump Software here.

What does BassJump sound like?

BassJump mixes with the sound already coming from your MacBook speakers to create a fuller, richer audio experience from the speakers you already have. It's like going from the sound of a hand held AM radio to a full hi-fi sound system - using your existing MacBook speakers. BassJump just helps them sound better.

How does BassJump improve my MacBooks sound?

BassJump improves MacBook's own sound by becoming the woofer/subwoofer for your MacBook. Your MacBook speakers then function as stereo tweeters. This is often called a 2.1 sound system. This combined sonic performance sounds tremendously better than your MacBook speakers alone. You will be blown away by just how good your MacBook speakers can sound - with just a little low-end help from BassJump.

Is the BassJump Software necessary for the BassJump to work?

Yes. The BassJump software is what enables the BassJump sound output to mix with the onboard speakers in your MacBook. It also allows you to tweak the Crossover Frequency and BassJump Volume relative to the overall MacBook volume level. Plus it features two big analog-style VU-Meters that really just... look cool.

Can BassJump be paired with an Apple display or external speakers?

BassJump was designed as a portable subwoofer exclusively for MacBook because we wanted an easy way to enhance the built-in speakers of our MacBooks while traveling. When Lion was released, we added support for Apple Displays due to customer demand, even though the enhancement provided by the subwoofer was more prominent with the MacBook speakers than more powerful Display, iMac, or external speakers.

When Mountain Lion was released however, we began to hear from some customers that they were experiencing software issues when using BassJump with an external Apple Display or speakers due to changes within the OS. We're still trying to work through these issues, but we had to remove our BassJump compatibility recommendation with setups that include an Apple Display or external speakers because of these changes.

The software does work for some people running OSX Mountain Lion using an Apple Display, Mac mini or external speakers, but we can no longer guarantee BassJump compatibility with these pairings.

What software can I use BassJump with?

BassJump will work with most software on your Mac. After you install it, BassJump is automatically set as your Sound Output, or you can select "BassJump Sound System" as your Audio Output directly in your favorite music production application.

Is the BassJump 2 Hardware the same as the original BassJump?

Yes. The physical hardware is the same. All BassJump 2 improvements are software based. This means that if you previously purchased a BassJump, you can get all the BassJump 2 features and improvements for free - just by downloading and installing the new BassJump 2 Software here.

Is BassJump compatible with other third-party sound enhancing software?

Unfortunately the BassJump Sound System software can not be used simultaneously with other sound enhancing software (like Boom for Mac). Since these other sound enhancing apps are performing similar functions, there may be some software interaction issues that may cause BassJump to not function as intended.

Can you combine two or more BassJumps for double the bass?

Not at this time. Currently, the BassJump software will only address one BassJump at a time.
