MagicWand
Frequently Asked Questions
Watch this for a quick overview of MagicWand:
What is MagicWand made of?
MagicWand is made of polycarbonate - the same material as a MacBook. This lets you snap your Magic Trackpad and Apple Wireless Keyboard into MagicWand without fear of scratching metal on metal. It also makes MagicWand very light. MagicWand weighs 45 grams, less than the weight of 2 AA batteries.
How will I change the batteries on my keyboard and trackpad?
Changing the batteries in your device is easy. Simply remove the H-beam, then gently lift the keyboard or trackpad out of MagicWand to access the battery bay. Once the batteries are installed, snap your keyboard or trackpad into MagicWand, install the H-beam and you’re ready to go.
Will MagicWand block the power button on my Wireless Keyboard or Trackpad?
Depending on which side you place your Magic Trackpad, you may block access to the power button on your keyboard or trackpad, but that’s okay. Apple’s smart hardware automatically puts itself to sleep when not in use and wakes up just as quickly when you need to use it. There’s no need to power down your keyboard or trackpad. They take their own power naps.
Does MagicWand reduce sensitivity of the Magic Trackpad ‘click’?
The H-Beam Stabilizer can hold the Magic Trackpad to the Apple Wireless Keyboard so tightly the ‘click’ closest to the seam can sometimes be difficult. This is easily fixed by loosening the two pieces slightly apart (and not ‘squeezing’ them together so much). Also, if you are using the MagicWand on your desk or table, you can remove the H-Beam and T-Pad. The need for these is primarily in ‘lap’ and ‘living room’ scenarios.
Which side of the keyboard do you have to place Magic Trackpad?
MagicWand lets you place your trackpad on either side of your Apple Wireless Keyboard. Place it on the side you typically mouse with, or try it on the opposite side and use your Trackpad and mouse together.
Can you "click on the couch?" I.e., how do you use Magic Trackpad in a MagicWand when it’s not on a smooth surface like a desk?
Magic Trackpad is the perfect pointing device for non-desk settings like the living room. Not only does it remove the surface required for mouse movement, it also has a very handy feature that removes the need for a physical click. It’s called ‘Tap to Click’ - the same feature available on many laptop trackpads. Enable ‘Tap to Click’ in your Magic Trackpad Preferences and one tap of the finger will do the same thing the traditional mouse click used to do.
While we’re at it, here’s another very handy feature the Magic Trackpad offers that really highlights the magic of Multi-gestures. Enable Three-finger Dragging in the Preferences. Now, using three-fingers on the trackpad moves windows and icons like click-and-drag used to work using a mouse. This handy feature is very helpful in many situations with your Magic Trackpad in a MagicWand. Give it a try now.
