BookArc for MacBook Air
The right tool for the job.
- Designed for: MacBook Air
- Also available for: iPad iPad mini iPad Air MacBook Pro MacBook Pro with Retina
Introducing the first BookArc designed exclusively for MacBook Air. The latest addition to the BookArc family has been re-engineered to firmly grip the ultra-thin MacBook Air only. This stylish and sturdy heavy gauge steel stand also has a built-in cable management system, making it a dream accessory for neatniks, minimalists and anyone else who craves a super tidy workspace. Park your MacBook Air in BookArc, connect it to your Apple Thunderbolt Display and your skinny MacBook is now a killer desktop.
Oh so nice cable management system.
Since the new MacBook Air has ports on both sides, a built-in cable manager has been incorporated into BookArc. It routes your power, external monitor, headphones and any other cords behind the back of your Mac for a clean, neat workspace. Along with keeping your cables orderly, the handy cable management system also holds your cables in place, making it easy to get your MacBook Air in and out of BookArc. Say goodbye to cables falling from the desk to the floor every time you unplug them from your MacBook Air.
One size fits both.
Whether you have an 11 or 13-inch MacBook Air, BookArc has you covered. Both sizes of this new sliver of genius from Apple have the same profile, so either fits snugly and securely in BookArc for MacBook Air. A soft, cushiony insert firmly grips your Mac for a secure fit. Silicone foot pads on the bottom of BookArc keep your work surface free of marks or scratches.
Want to speed up your MacBook Air? Try a BookArc. Really.
BookArc for MacBook Air is more than a beautifully designed stand for your Mac. If you work with an external monitor, BookArc can actually improve the performance of MacBook Air. How? When you work with two monitors, your Mac’s video memory is split between the two, but when you work with your MacBook closed, your Mac only has to power the external display. You will notice an increase in speed, especially when working in Photoshop, Aperture, iPhoto and other graphics-intensive apps. So can a notebook stand really speed up your MacBook? If it’s a BookArc, the answer is yes.

- Why would I want cable management for my MacBook Air?
The new MacBook Air benefits greatly from cable management because, unlike all other current MacBooks, there are important connections on both sides of the Air. Power is on one side, while the External Monitor port is on the other. Desktop connections will be very messy and cluttered unless they are neatly gathered and hidden away - which is exactly what the cable management on the BookArc for MacBook Air does.
BookArc Cable Management also keeps desktop connections handy and available when returning your MacBook Air to your desk from the road. It’s like having a docking station waiting for your MacBook Air to return. BookArc Cable Management may seem like a small thing, but it will quickly become your favorite feature after enjoying its convenience and tidiness for a few days.
- Can I use my First Gen MacBook Air with the new BookArc for MacBook Air?
No. Unfortunately, a BookArc that is compatible with the First Gen MacBook Air is no longer available.
- Can I use BookArc for MacBook Air with a snap-on case?
No. The new BookArc for MacBook Air was made to fit the Air like a glove. There isn’t any extra room for the additional bulk plastic shells add to the ultra-thin MacBook Air.
- Should I get BookArc or Compass for my iPad?
BookArc for iPad is a beautiful, sturdy iPad stand designed to fit in perfectly at home or the office. When combined with iPad, it creates a sculpture-like configuration that makes a perfect home workstation, charging stand or even digital picture frame. It is not however, particularly portable. It stays on your counter or desk at home when your iPad is on the go.
Compass is the ultimate mobile stand for iPad. It folds out to give you an easel-like display for your iPad in Portrait or Widescreen mode. It even can lean down and become the perfect typing wedge when using the iPad on-screen keyboard. When not in use, Compass folds up into a pocket friendly 7x1 inch package - even slipping into an included padded travel sleeve.
Which Twelve South iPad stand is right for you depends on where you use your iPad most. Is your iPad always by your side during your travels and business trips? Then the ultra-portable Compass is your must-have iPad accessory. However, if your iPad is more of a homebody, used for consuming media, watching movies and YouTube videos , keeping up with Facebook friends and reading books, BookArc may be the perfect work of art to hold your iPad, when you’re done holding your iPad.
Of course the ultimate solution might be to have a Compass and a BookArc!
- How to use your MacBook closed in BookArc for Air:
- The original BookArc box says ‘compatible with MacBook Air’. Is it?
The first BookArc for MacBook is compatible with the ‘First Generation’ MacBook Air. It is not compatible with the new (late 2010-current) 11 and 13-inch MacBook Air. Newer packaging and online descriptions for our BookArc clarify this. Unfortunately, some older packaging exists in stores that existed before the new Second Gen. MacBook Air did.
- Why would I use my MacBook Air in a BookArc?
The MacBook Air is an amazing machine and it has a secret. It not only makes an outstanding portable laptop computer for computing on the go, it is also plenty powerful enough to be your full-time ‘desktop’ machine in your home or office too. But when using your MacBook Air at home, why be confined to the ‘portable’ dimensions of the screen and keyboard. Why not connect it to a larger monitor with dramatically more screen real-estate? Why not use your favorite mouse when working at your desk?
That’s where BookArc comes in. When using MacBook Air at your desk connected to your favorite mouse, keyboard and monitor: it actually starts to be in the way. BookArc scoops up your MacBook, stores it vertically, and makes it a sexy micro-tower machine. More importantly, BookArc gives you back acres of valuable desk space.
There’s one additional benefit of using your MacBook Air closed in a BookArc vs using it in dual-screen mode with an external monitor. It actually speeds up your MacBook Air! Dedicating 100% of your MacBook Air’s video memory to the external monitor decreases redraw time in everything from iPhoto to Photoshop.
- What! I can use my MacBook Air closed? How do I do that?
Yes you can. Connect a nice big external monitor, your favorite keyboard & mouse and you’ve essentially turned your MacBook Air into a space-saving micro tower. Apple calls it “Closed Clamshell Mode”. Read specific instructions directly from the Apple tech support site right here.
