How to use BookArc

Dynamite docking station.

BookArc allows you to run a full desktop setup with your MacBook. Did you know your MacBook was designed for this? Apple experts suggest utilizing a little-known feature called closed-clamshell mode. Add a large external monitor, extended keyboard, and mouse, for a more comfortable work station. Enjoy a bright 27-inch display for super-sized photo editing, gain a dedicated number keypad and reclaim vital desk real estate with your MacBook upright and tucked out of the way in BookArc.

When is one better than two?

Use a dual-screen MacBook setup? Close your MacBook and try working on a single monitor. According to experts, this type of setup increases focus, minimizes workspace clutter and even speeds up display performance by dedicating 100% video memory to a single display.  When using BookArc, you have a newfound laser focus on the work before you.

The original vertical MacBook stand, reimagined.

Introduced in 2009, BookArc was Twelve South’s very first product. Since then, MacBooks have become radically thinner and more compact, so it was time for our iconic stand  to evolve as well. Now milled from aluminum, BookArc features a bead-blasted finish. A polished chamfered edge pays homage to the new mirrored Apple logo featured on the new 12-inch MacBook. Finally, the entire stand has been scaled, refined and optimized to fit most MacBooks, from 12-inch to the brand new Pro Thunderbolt 3 (with and without Touch Bar), with one of the three included BookArc inserts.

Now for something completely different. Meet BookArc möd.

BookArc FAQs

Is BookArc compatible with the 2016 MacBook Pro?

Yes! The current BookArc features three interchangeable inserts that work with 2016 MacBook Pro Thunderbolt 3, MacBook 12", MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Retina Display (2012 - 2015 Models).

If you already own a BookArc and only need the compatible insert for the 2016 MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3, it can be purchased for $9.99 in our store

How do I know if have the current BookArc for replacement parts?

The most recent update for our BookArc for MacBook was relased in 2015. The current BookArc is slimmer and takes up less space on your desktop than the original model. The easiest way to tell if you have the most recent version is to take a look at the edges. If your BookArc has a champfered chrome edge (on the right in the image below) then this is the most recent version and the new silicone insert for the 2016 MacBook will fit perfectly. If you have the original model unfortunately we will not be making any updated inserts and you will need to purchase a completely new stand if you want to continue using BookArc to streamline your setup.

Ok, now why would I want to use my MacBook closed?

Many reasons, but basically it boils down to wanting a portable notebook on the road, and a comfortable desktop computer at home. Using your MacBook closed on a BookArc while connected to your favorite widescreen monitor, keyboard and mouse is truly the best of both worlds.
