AirFly Drive plugs into your car’s CarPlay or Android Auto USB port and turns the wired connection wireless. Before first-time setup, disconnect your phone from your car’s Bluetooth by selecting your vehicle in your phone’s Bluetooth settings and choosing Forget This Device.

Then, plug in AirFly Drive and follow the on-screen instructions. If the setup screen doesn’t appear, select the Apple CarPlay icon on your car’s infotainment screen—even if you use an Android phone.

Once connected, you can confirm the connection in your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, where you’ll see “AirFly Drive.” AirFly Drive uses Wi-Fi to establish the connection between your phone and car. Pair once, and future drives connect automatically—no cable or app needed.

AirFly Drive needs to go into your car’s media-enabled CarPlay/Android Auto media port, not the charge-only port. Many cars have both port types, and plugging AirFly Drive into the charging-only one means it won’t launch. Check for a CarPlay/Android Auto icon near the port, or your owner’s manual.

Every AirFly Drive comes with:

  • one USB-A to USB-C adapter (for cars with USB-C ports)
  • one quick start guide

Only if your vehicle's port is USB-C. AirFly Drive connects natively via USB-A; the included USB-A to USB-C adapter is there for cars with a USB-C connection. Either way, setup is still plug and play.

AirFly Drive works with any car that already has a wired Apple CarPlay or wired Android Auto system, most vehicles from around 2016 on. Not sure if your car has CarPlay or Android Auto? Apple and Google both publish compatible vehicle lists, or you can check with your manufacturer. AirFly Drive is not compatible with AUX-only vehicles.

Yes. AirFly Drive pairs with two phones and lets you switch between them with a single press, no re-pairing needed.

AirFly Drive is made from an aluminum alloy and polycarbonate housing measuring 0.89 x 0.89 x 1.06 in (22.5 x 22.5 x 27 mm) and weighing 42 g, small enough to disappear into your console once it’s plugged in.

Airfly Drive may feel warm while operating. We chose an aluminum housing to help transfer heat away from the internal electronics. As a result, it may feel warmer to the touch than a plastic housing. If it becomes unusually hot or you notice connection or audio issues as it warms up, contact Twelve South support.

    Worked Perfectly

    I’ve had several devices to turn wired car play into wireless. All were spotty in their function in my Volvo XC90. This one hadn’t missed a beat and worked every time without error since I put it in the car.

    Wow...That was easy!

    I actually have an Airily Drive (White), not (Black). The box did not include a Quickstart Guide as specified on the product page but the page included a nice video that was simple to follow. It took more time to back the car out of the garage then it did to set up the AFD. It works flawlessly and as stated in the Q&A, it does get a little warm. My only question / confusion is that after turning off the car, the AFD flashes blue 7 times and then turns red for a few seconds and repeats this sequence. I'm not sure what this means.

    As for the lights you’re seeing after turning off your car, some vehicles continue supplying power to their USB ports for a short period after the vehicle is shut off. This can cause AirFly Drive to continue cycling through its connection/status lights while it still has power. Once your vehicle stops supplying power to the USB port, the lights should turn off completely.

    So glad to hear AirFly Drive is otherwise working flawlessly for you. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    So impressed

    Just installed it after getting it on Amazon today and it took 2 seconds. Connected via Bluetooth and done. Up and running. I’ve wanted something like this for so long but the reviews were bad and pricing was high. This solved it all and is so simple. Great job, team!
