The fit, function, and protection of the Classic Brown and Rutledge BookBooks are the same. The main difference between the two is the finishing treatment. The leather on the Rutledge BookBook is hand-compressed during the manufacturing process, giving it a thinner feel and a shinier, harder finish which is more resistant to scratching. Additionally, the covers of the Rutledge BookBook have multiple hand-applied and hand-rubbed layers of dye, giving each one a unique, golden-red center which gradually darkens out toward the edges. If you are looking for a softer, more traditional leather finish then the Classic Brown version is the case for you. This leather case will naturally patina over time giving it a vintage look and feel.
Yes - on some of the models. Any of our BookBooks that were designed for iPad Pro will feature a sleeve in the spine to perfectly hold your Apple Pencil - this includes the new 2018 iPad BookBook. Any BookBook designed for an iPad that doesn't support Apple Pencil will not have this feature (Air 1/2, mini 1-4, and iPad 2017).
No. All of our BookBooks for iPad feature an interior leather sleeve that will hold your iPad or iPad Pro securely inside. Unfortunately since these are measured specifically for each model, there isn't additional room for shells or cases. But don't worry! When your iPad is stored in a BookBook you have all the protection you need with two hardback covers and a reinforced spine for impact protection and a soft, microfiber interior to protect the screen and finish.
Although some customers do like to use products to clean or condition the leather, we don't actually 'recommend' it because we increasingly like our own BookBooks as they become more scratched and stained. We feel they look more authentically distressed and vintage, and become more 'individual'. It's like loving a much-used family antique more than something new and shiny.
