At Twelve South we design products to solve overlooked moments, charging being one of the biggest. PowerCord is our answer to the everyday frustrations that come with cheap, short, and overbuilt chargers. It’s simple, purposeful, and quietly brilliant. It’s a 30W USB-C wall charger paired with a flat, fabric-wrapped cable available in two lengths and two complementing colors.

The Design vision behind PowerCord

We can all relate to the charging block and cable overwhelm. Twelve South Co-Founder and CCO Andrew Green explains that “Charging used to be simple. Now people have a kitchen drawer full of adapters and cables that don’t fit anything. There had to be a simple way to solve charging all over again.” 

We use USB-C to charge almost everything now. Phones, tablets, headphones, gaming controllers, self-care tools, and kitchen gadgets all rely on it. The Design Team at Twelve South set out to create one simple solution for all of them.

1. A cable that understands real-life range

If you’ve ever wrestled a short cable from your wall outlet to your bed or across a couch, you already understand why PowerCord comes in 4-foot and 10-foot lengths. Twelve South’s Design Team intentionally chose these lengths based on assessments of how people actually use chargers at home, on the go, and at their desks.

The flat cable design helps the cord stay put, resist tangles, and follow the shape of your surfaces. It’s deliberately designed to be more flexible in tight spaces and easier to wrap or store when you’re on the move. The braided fabric adds texture and grip, helping it stay off the floor and out of the way.

2. Color you don’t have to hide

PowerCord is available in two color combinations: Slate and Dune. These tones were carefully chosen for their ability to blend seamlessly into all of your environments, from a wood nightstand, to a stone countertop, or modern workstation. It’s about complimenting the aesthetic of your space.

Rather than opting for glossy finishes or high-contrast colors, the palette is grounded in neutral, natural hues. These materials feel calm and considerate, designed to complement your tech without drawing unnecessary attention to it.

3. Smarter charging behind the scenes

At the core of PowerCord is a 30W USB-C Power Delivery 3.1 wall charger that supports PPS (Programmable Power Supply) for safe, dynamic charging. With enough power to charge your tablet and smartphone, it adjusts intelligently to deliver just the right amount of power for your device.

The Type A wall prongs are fixed, not foldable. This design choice increases long-term durability and reduces flex or wobble over time, especially for chargers that stay plugged in daily.

4. Small details, big impact

PowerCord includes a low-profile cable manager that slips around the cord when needed. It allows you to neatly coil and pack the charger without tangling, whether you’re traveling or just keeping your space organized.

The charger housing itself features a matte texture that’s easy to grip and wipe clean, with smooth, contoured edges that feel at home among other modern devices. The circular shape was chosen to stand apart from other 30-watt chargers, and Twelve South Principal Industrial Designer Christina Tapp notes that “We chose to notch out the sides to give you a really natural grab point.”
