A little routine care each month can keep your AirFly battery healthy for years of travel. Here are four simple habits to build into your routine, plus a quick video walkthrough.

How to Properly Care for Your AirFly Battery

If your AirFly spends more time in a travel bag than in your ears, you are not alone. AirFly is built for exactly that kind of life: tucked into a carry on, pulled out for a flight, then set aside until the next trip. But that stop and start pattern is also the reason its battery needs a little attention now and then.

Every AirFly model, from the AirFly SE to the newest AirFly Pro 2 Deluxe, runs on a lithium ion battery. Like any lithium ion battery, it can gradually lose capacity if it sits unused for long stretches. The good news is that a few minutes of routine care each month is all it takes to keep your AirFly ready whenever you are.

Twelve South put together a short video that walks through everything below.

Four Habits That Keep Your AirFly Battery Healthy

  1. Use it once a month. Even when you are not traveling, turn your AirFly on and let it run for 30 to 60 minutes. You do not need to drain the battery fully. Simply powering it on from time to time helps maintain its health.
  2. Avoid full discharge. Try not to let the battery run all the way down before recharging it. Lithium ion batteries actually prefer to be topped off along the way rather than pushed to empty, so a partial charge is better than a full drain.
  3. Set a reminder. Put a recurring monthly reminder on your phone or calendar to power on and lightly use or charge your AirFly. A quick check in each month prevents deep discharge and helps the battery last longer overall.
  4. Recharge before storage. If you are putting your AirFly away for an extended period, charge it to about 50 percent first. That gives the battery enough of a buffer to stay stable while it sits unused.
